Summary
Brightside is a well-reviewed practice that AI rarely recommends. Four fixes this week can change that.
Patients increasingly ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity which dentist to choose. Today Brightside appears in 15% of those answers, versus 60% for Lakeline Family Dentistry.
The causes are fixable: Perplexity is blocked from your site, your Saturday hours are wrong on the sources AI trusts, your directory profiles are thin, and your mobile homepage is slow. In parallel, three tracking tools run before consent — a quick legal-risk fix.
Start with the quick wins (all under a day), then build the three question pages that competitors use to win.

Top priorities
- 1Unblock PerplexityBot in robots.txt — 5-minute change that reopens a whole AI engine.
- 2Fix the “closed on Saturday” error at its sources — Wrong hours cost you emergency patients now.
- 3Load analytics and ad pixels only after consent — Removes a legal and trust risk.
- 4Cut mobile LCP from 5.8 s to under 2.5 s — Most patients arrive on mobile.
- 5Complete your Healthgrades and Yelp profiles — the two sources AI cites most — The sources AI trusts most for local services.
Biggest risks
- Wrong opening hours repeated by AI assistants.
- Privacy exposure from consent-free tracking on treatment pages.
Biggest opportunities
- Saturday availability is a unique advantage for emergency questions.
- Positive sentiment whenever you are mentioned.
AI Visibility
AI assistants recommend three nearby competitors far more often than Brightside — mainly because they're better documented on the sources AI trusts.
Across 48 answers (12 buyer questions × 4 engines, localized to Austin, US), Brightside was mentioned 7 times (14.6%), at an average position of 3.6. Lakeline Family Dentistry was named in 60% of answers.
The gap is not about quality: when Brightside is mentioned, sentiment is positive (4 of 7) and no answer was negative. The gap is about evidence AI can find: competitors appear on Healthgrades and Yelp with complete profiles, publish FAQ content that matches the questions patients ask, and mark up their opening hours with schema.org.
One factual error matters: ChatGPT says Brightside is closed on Saturdays, which directly costs you the emergency queries — where Saturday availability is your strongest differentiator.
Your best question is your weakest answer
Brightside is one of only two practices open on Saturday, yet appears in 1 of 4 answers to “emergency dentist open saturday austin”. The fact exists on your site but only as an image in the footer.
Gemini knows you, ChatGPT doesn't
Gemini (Google Business Profile data) mentions you in 25% of answers; ChatGPT only 8%. ChatGPT relies on Bing and review sites where your profile is incomplete.
PerplexityBot is blocked
Your robots.txt blocks PerplexityBot, so Perplexity can only cite third-party pages about you — never your own.

CriticalUnblock PerplexityBot in robots.txtEffort: < 1 hour
Evidence
- robots.txt:
User-agent: PerplexityBot→Disallow: / - Perplexity cited brightside-dental.example 0 times in 12 answers
Why it matters
Perplexity cannot read or cite any page of your site. When it recommends a dentist, it can only rely on directories — where competitors have richer profiles.
How to fix it
- In WordPress, open Yoast SEO → Tools → File editor (or edit robots.txt at the root via your hosting file manager).
- Delete the two lines
User-agent: PerplexityBotandDisallow: /. - Keep the GPTBot training block if you want — it doesn't affect ChatGPT search (OAI-SearchBot).
- Save, then open https://www.brightside-dental.example/robots.txt to confirm the change is live.
On your platform
If Cloudflare 'Block AI bots' is enabled (Security → Bots), switch it to allow verified search crawlers, otherwise the robots.txt change has no effect.

CriticalFix the “closed on Saturday” error at its sourcesEffort: < 1 day
Evidence
- ChatGPT: “one source says it is closed on Saturdays”
- Website footer shows Saturday 9:00–14:00 as an image (no text, no schema)
- yelp.example listing shows Mon–Fri only
Why it matters
Saturday opening is your advantage for emergency searches. AI answers repeat what the most-cited sources say — currently your Yelp profile, not your website.
How to fix it
- Update opening hours on Yelp, Google Business Profile, Healthgrades and Apple Business Connect (identical hours everywhere).
- Replace the footer hours image with real text.
- Add OpeningHoursSpecification to your Dentist schema (see code).
- Create an 'Emergency dentist — open Saturday' page targeting the question patients ask.
On your platform
WordPress: Appearance → Widgets → Footer, replace the image block with a paragraph block.

Evidence
- yelp.example cited 21 times, healthgrades.example 17 times across answers
- Competitor profiles list services, insurance, photos and 150+ reviews
Why it matters
For local services, AI assistants lean on review platforms. A thin profile makes you invisible even when your site is good.
How to fix it
- Claim both profiles.
- Add all services, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken and photos.
- Ask your last 50 satisfied patients for a review (post-visit SMS with direct link).
- Reply to every review, mentioning the treatment name.
Expected outcome
Higher mention rate in ChatGPT and Perplexity for 'best dentist' questions.
How to measure success
Number of reviews; mention rate for best-of questions.
MediumPublish an llms.txt summarizing your practiceEffort: < 1 hour
Evidence
- https://www.brightside-dental.example/llms.txt returns 404
Why it matters
llms.txt gives assistants a clean, factual summary with links to your key pages — services, prices, hours, insurance.
How to fix it
- Download llms.txt from the Fix pack.
- Upload it to the site root via your hosting file manager.
- Check it opens at /llms.txt.
Expected outcome
Assistants that fetch your site get accurate facts first.

Website Growth
Strong local content, held back by a slow mobile homepage and weak titles on the pages that convert.
The homepage takes 5.8 s to show its main content on mobile (field data confirms slow for real Chrome users). The main cause is a 2.4 MB hero video loaded on phones and 740 ms of blocking scripts (chat widget + three tracking tags).
12 of 48 pages lack a meta description, and service pages use generic titles ("Services – Brightside").
Your hero sells the building, not the benefit
Above the fold, visitors see a video of the lobby and the tagline “Welcome to Brightside”. The two things patients decide on — same-week appointments and Saturday hours — are not visible without scrolling.

HighCut mobile LCP from 5.8 s to under 2.5 sEffort: < 1 day
Evidence
- Lighthouse mobile performance 41/100
- LCP 5.8 s, TBT 740 ms, CLS 0.21
- Hero video 2.4 MB on mobile
Why it matters
More than half of dental searches happen on phones. Each extra second before content shows increases drop-off.
How to fix it
- Replace the hero video by a compressed WebP image on mobile (keep video on desktop only).
- Delay the chat widget until user interaction.
- Load Meta Pixel and Hotjar only after consent (also fixes the compliance issue).
- Set width/height on hero images to remove layout shift.
On your platform
WordPress: in WP Rocket enable 'Delay JavaScript execution' for the chat and pixel scripts; set 'LazyLoad' for iframes and videos.

MediumRewrite titles and meta descriptions of the 6 service pagesEffort: < 1 day
Evidence
- 12/48 pages missing meta descriptions

Why it matters
Titles and descriptions decide whether people click — and AI engines reuse them to describe your pages.
How to fix it
- Use the rewritten titles/descriptions below in Yoast for each page.
- Keep titles under 60 characters and include city + service.

Compliance & Trust
Three tracking tools fire before any consent and the site has no accessibility statement — both easy to fix.
Google Analytics, Meta Pixel and Hotjar load on the first page view with no consent banner. For a healthcare provider, sending browsing data to advertising platforms without consent is a meaningful privacy risk. Accessibility scores 78/100 with 14 images missing alternative text and a booking form without labels. This is not legal advice.
Health context raises the stakes
Page-level tracking on treatment pages (e.g. /implants/) can reveal health information to ad platforms.
HTTPS: ✓
Consent platform: —
Trackers: Google Analytics (GA4), Meta Pixel, Hotjar
Before consent: Google Analytics (GA4), Meta Pixel, Hotjar
Missing headers: content-security-policy, permissions-policy, referrer-policy

HighLoad analytics and ad pixels only after consentEffort: < 1 day
Evidence
- Trackers in initial HTML: Google Analytics (GA4), Meta Pixel, Hotjar
- Cookies set on first load: _ga, _fbp, _hjSessionUser
Why it matters
Consent-free tracking creates privacy exposure (state privacy laws in the US; GDPR/ePrivacy for EU visitors) and damages trust.
How to fix it
- Install a consent platform (e.g. Complianz or CookieYes for WordPress).
- Enable Google Consent Mode v2 in the plugin.
- Move Meta Pixel and Hotjar behind the 'marketing' and 'statistics' categories.
- Remove Meta Pixel from treatment pages entirely.
On your platform
Complianz: Wizard → Consent → enable 'Google Consent Mode'; Integrations → block Hotjar and Meta Pixel until consent.
Expected outcome
No tracker before consent; cleaner, lower-risk analytics.
How to measure success
Next report: 'Trackers before consent' = none.

Competitors
Lakeline wins on proof: 150+ reviews, FAQ pages and complete structured data.
Lakeline Family Dentistry is mentioned in 60% of answers. Its advantage comes from content that mirrors patient questions (cost pages, emergency page, insurance FAQ) and consistent profiles across directories.

How to fix it
- Create /invisalign-cost-austin/, /emergency-dentist-saturday/ and /dentist-accepting-medicaid-austin/ (if applicable).
- Answer the question in the first 2 sentences, then details, prices and FAQs.
- Add FAQPage schema to each page.
